Specialist Biosafety Services for the GM user

Biosafety and Biosecurity - Biorisk Management

free report for new registrants

Our aim is to help you achieve the appropriate standards of biorisk management (biosafety and biosecurity) required to control activities in microbiological containment laboratories. Biosafety relates to the use of the principles of containment and suitable working practices that are intended to either minimise or prevent the unintentional exposure to biological agents or their accidental release into the environment. By operating and adhering to suitable high standards the requirements of biosecurity at the laboratory level can also be readily achieved.

Our bespoke consultancy service will help you:-

•Identify all possible biorisk hazards

•Put in place the necessary control mechanisms and monitoring arrangements.

•Identify training needs to improve your current working practices on biorisk management.

Laboratory Design services

Building or refurbishing containment laboratories is an expensive undertaking - putting right a badly designed laboratory is even more costly! To ensure that your new build is fit for purpose, future proof and allows for efficient operational practices, you need to take advice very early in the planning process to avoid commonly made and costly mistakes. Our experience in the operation of a number of open plan facilities and high containment laboratories will help you get the right build.

Health and Safety Training for GMM Users

Our specialist training will help you

•  Protect staff, contractors and visitors

•  Reduce the risk of unintentional release into the environment of biological agents

•  Improve your understanding of the process for conducting risk assessments and implement the appropriate control measures and working practices.

Quality Assurance and Biosafety Audits

Our practical experience in working in high containment facilities and regulatory background will assist you in identifying the route causes of non-conformities and undesirable events. Our previous audits of the biorisk management of numerous organizations working in this specialist area will help you systematically identify and correct system deficiencies to lead to sustainable improvements in the management and control of biorisks.

On-line hazard assessment reports and consultancy

We specialise in GM health and safety for activities involving work with GMOs by offering on-line hazard assessments and guidance for GM users preparing risk assessments. Our aim is to provide a hazard assessment and advisory service to those working with genetic modification techniques in the bioscience area undertaking in vitro studies. The base document can be developed by your organisation into an approved risk assessment.

Our unique hazard assessment report generator provides for over 40 viral vectors combined with over 700 possible genes of interest. These reports are displayed via the browser in real time and can be saved locally or printed. These reports assist the bioscience community by identifying the hazardous characteristics of the GMM so that appropriate controls can be put in place to reduce the likelihood of harm to humans and the environment. We are continuously adding to our list of viral vector options and developing new reports.

For confirmation that your GMM is available on the database, please send an email to helpdesk@genetiq.co.uk describing your gene of interest and vector.
